Question 1

How long have you been in business?

Accepted Answer

LPD Driving School has been teaching people to drive since 2013 — over 10 years as DVSA-approved instructors.

Question 2

Are you a fully insured and registered business?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the business is registered and fully insured.

Question 3

What areas do you cover?

Accepted Answer

We teach across Scunthorpe, Brigg, Kirton Lindsey and Messingham, and the surrounding North Lincolnshire area.

Question 4

How many driving lessons will I need to pass my test?

Accepted Answer

It varies a lot by how much experience you're starting with — the DVSA's own research suggests an average of around 45 hours of professional lessons plus 22 hours of private practice, but some pupils need fewer and some need more. Your instructor will give you a realistic estimate after your first couple of lessons rather than guessing upfront.

Question 5

What's the difference between automatic and manual driving lessons?

Accepted Answer

Manual lessons cover clutch control and gear changing alongside everything else; automatic removes that layer so you can focus purely on observation, positioning and hazard awareness. A licence passed in an automatic only covers automatic cars — see our Automatic Driving Lessons page for more detail.

Question 6

How much do driving lessons cost in Scunthorpe?

Accepted Answer

Our standard 1-hour lesson is £50, with longer sessions, block bookings, and intensive courses priced separately — see the Pricing section on the homepage for the full current list.

Question 7

How does an intensive driving course work, and what does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Our intensive course condenses lessons into a focused block so you can go from beginner to test-ready in days rather than months, for £2,500. It suits pupils working to a deadline or who simply want to get on the road faster, without changing the patient, structured approach.

Question 8

How much does Pass Plus cost, and is it worth it?

Accepted Answer

Our Pass Plus course is £300. It's a post-test course covering motorway, night, and all-weather driving that your test doesn't require — many insurers offer a discount for newly qualified drivers who've completed it, though the amount varies by provider. See our Pass Plus page for more detail.

Question 9

What's the best age to learn to drive?

Accepted Answer

You can start learning as soon as you hold a provisional licence, which is available from age 17 (or 16 if you receive the higher rate mobility component of PIP/DLA). There's no upper age limit — we teach nervous and returning drivers at any age. See our Nervous Driver Lessons page if that's you.

Question 10

How do I book my actual driving test?

Accepted Answer

You book your practical test directly with the DVSA once your instructor confirms you're ready — we'll guide you through timing this so your test date lines up with your progress, and can supply the car and instructor for test day itself.

Question 11

Can I change my driving lesson plans at any time?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, no. Lessons are only booked around your availability, and due to high demand, lessons are booked close together, so it isn't always possible to move pupils about.

Question 12

Can I get a refund?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can get a refund if you have paid in advance for lessons and have given 48 hours notice, as per terms and conditions.

Question 13

How do I sign up?

Accepted Answer

Fill in the enquiry form on our Book page, or call, text, email, or send a Facebook message using the contact details in the footer. Text messages are preferred, as we are not always available to answer calls.

Question 14

When will I be billed?

Accepted Answer

Payment is required on confirmation of your lesson to secure your slot. Non-payment may result in your slot being offered to another pupil.

Question 15

Are there any discounts?

Accepted Answer

We don’t run discounts — all lessons are set prices. See the Pricing section for current rates.
